This piece takes the famous words from Isaiah 9. It starts low and brooding as we are reminded that people are walking in darkness. However, the light has come and the section builds in confidence. The second section starts quietly with the immortal words “For now to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given”. Again this builds, first as a chorale, then men and women in canon. Finally full two choirs as the hymn grows in intensity. The piece finishes with a resounding “Amen”.
